To my gorgeous wife…I am immensely thankful to God for you…
without action, is dead.
“You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.” James 2:20-22
Actions, not just words. Walk it out, be faithful in word AND in deed, and give praise to the Father for His mercy.
had a cost…
“Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; He has put him to grief;” Isaiah 53:10a
“Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.” — Dietrich Bonhoffer
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:8-14 ESV
In Ephesians, Paul warns the Redeemed not to walk like unbelievers… ”
“They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.” Ephesians 4:18-19 (ESV)
Then farther down in verse 27 he says “…and give no opportunity to the devil.” Continue reading
…even when it’s hard.
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:1-5
I’m not feeling terribly original in my thinking this morning, and this devotional by Paul David Tripp says it much more clearly than I could anyway.
“Quit being paralyzed by your past. Grace offers you
life in the present and a guarantee of a future.”
God, please help me to be of one mind in ALL that I do, pleasing you…
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” James 1:2-8
I’m not much on alternative translations of the Bible, primarily because I think if we are to try to discern the truth of God’s word, that we should stick to a translation that is as close as possible to the original words. That said, I saw Matthew 11:28-30 out of The Message on Our Daily Bread this morning, and it brought tears to my eyes: Continue reading
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”” Jeremiah 17:9-10
I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty sobering to me, not to mention terrifying on many levels…
My intention for my writing going forward is to be done with exploring the past pain and heartache I’ve experienced, because after a while you have to be done with it. That said, there are some valid things to be stated that are part of that moving forward process. Continue reading
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46
Over the past few years I’ve become very adept at ignoring what people who claim to be children of God say, and looking instead at their actions. There is nothing quite so clear as watching a person who claims faith in Christ refuse to obey clear direction from God in Scripture. They claim to be looking for a sign from God, and choose to deliberately rebel against His clear direction in the Word. I fear for their lives…
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” Psalm 51:17 Continue reading
I’ve spent the last couple of years working through some pretty serious life issues and how to not only reconcile those in my own life, but how to stand up and walk forward after a lot of pain and betrayal…just pure, evil garbage. So, instead of leaving all of that material here, I decided to clean house and look forward, not back. This quote is apt for the beginning though: Continue reading
